Background
Atikha Overseas Workers and Communities Initiatives, in partnership with the International Fund for Agri-cultural Development Financing Facility for Remittance (IFAD FFR), Soro-soro Ibaba Development Coop-erative (SIDC) and migrant organizations in Italy such as FWC and ACFIL, implemented the project “Mobi-lizing Migrant Resources towards Agriculture Development”. This project initiated the Pinoy Worldwide Initiative for Investment Savings and Entrepreneurship (Pinoy WISE) which started as a financial educa-tion program of Atikha.
Since then, Pinoy WISE became a movement and was transformed as a network of national and local government units, migrant and family organizations, NGOs, cooperatives and other financial institutions and private sector that promotes financial education, investment and entrepreneurship to ensure that migration will contribute to the development of the Overseas Filipinos, their families and communities. Aside from Atikha, Pinoy WISE convenors include the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP) and the Department of Agriculture (DA).
On 23 November 2012, the Pinoy WISE International was launched at the Abu Dhabi National Theater with Philippine Ambassador to UAE , Her Excellency Ambassador Grace Relucio Princesa as one of its champi-ons. It was able to reach out to more than 5,000 overseas Filipinos. It was participated in by the Depart-ment of Agriculture, Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP), Philippine Embassy in Abu Dha-bi, six provincial local governments, agri-based cooperatives, government financial institutions and NGOs. Financial education is continuously being provided through the Pinoy WISE Family and Income Manage-ment Course. It also conducts Pinoy WISE Overseas Filipino Market Place Events abroad. In 2013, Pinoy WISE International was also brought to Qatar through the assistance of the Philippine Embassy under the leadership of His Excellency Ambassador Crescente Relacion.
Pinoy WISE International is also being implemented in the top migrant origin provinces such as Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, and Tarlac.
In 2015, Pinoy WISE migration and development initiatives is going to be scaled up in 4 countries namely Italy, Qatar, UAE and Singapore and in 7 provinces in the Philippines including Batangas, Laguna, Tarlac, Oriental Mindoro, Ifugao, Agusan del Sur and Misamis Oriental through the support of IFAD FFR.
